Asphalt Maintenance / Repair

High costs are incurred when constructing asphalt roads, but they can be protected and their service life extended through much lower-cost maintenance measures. It's essential to utilize the road economically before its expected lifespan is exhausted. To extend the service life of the road, necessary maintenance practices should be conducted while the road is still in good condition, thereby enhancing the durability of the road structure. We have developed products and solutions for repairing thermal cracks, fatigue cracks, polishing, and potholes using cold asphalt patching.

Asphalt Crack Repair

One of the problems in road maintenance is the cracks that develop in asphalt. For filling surface cracks in asphalt pavements and concrete joints, Flexoderz, a bitumen-rubber-based filler paste, is used. It is the ideal product for repairing cracks that do not reach the underlying layers of the asphalt pavement. FlexoDerz Filler Paste is prepared with a high proportion of polymer-modified bitumen, filler material, and a special blend formula.

FlexoDerz Characteristics:

  • Highly elastic.
  • Maintains elasticity between -20 °C and +120 °C.
  • Can be heated in a double-walled special kettle or directly over a stove.

Application

  • The surfaces to be treated must be dry and clean.
  • Joint edges should be cleaned with a wire brush, spiral motor, or sandblasting. If possible, compressed air should be used to clear the joint cavity. A primer should be applied before the product to ensure good adhesion.
  • After heating FlexoDerz to a maximum temperature of 180 °C, it is mixed and poured into the joint.
  • The outer surfaces in areas exposed to traffic can be sanded.
  • The area can be opened to traffic in about 1 hour. If the temperature exceeds 180 °C or if it is heated and cooled several times, the product loses its properties and cannot be reused.

Consumption

  • Consumption: 1.17 kg/dm³
  • Approximately 1 kg of FlexoDerz is required to repair a 1-meter-long asphalt crack.
  • For example, for an asphalt crack measuring 1 meter in length, 2 cm in width, and 4 cm in depth, the required amount would be calculated as follows:
    • 1,000×(1×0.02×0.04×1.17)=0.94 kg FlexoDerz1,000 \times (1 \times 0.02 \times 0.04 \times 1.17) = 0.94 \, \text{kg FlexoDerz}1,000×(1×0.02×0.04×1.17)=0.94kg FlexoDerz.

This structured approach ensures the effective repair and maintenance of asphalt roads, extending their lifespan and improving safety and performance.
